AutoGuide Face Off: 2013 Mazda3 Hatchback vs 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT

Don Mealey’s Sport Mazda in Orlando, Florida has seen the demand for the 2013 Mazda3 firsthand. As a Mazda dealership, the look on the face of someone that has just finished their test drive of the Mazda3 makes us happy to know that the engineering and design is being appreciated and regarded as an excellent driving experience. The fine folks at AutoGuide.com know the feeling and reflected it in their newest article that pitted the 2013 Mazda3 Hatchback against the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT.

These are two cars in the same class and both tout excellent fuel economy, however, as Auto Guide puts it, “While nearly identical in functionality, a week spent testing both cars showed the Mazda to have superior real world fuel economy while also being more fun to drive.” Read the full article on AutoGuide.com to see what they loved and loathed about the Mazda3 and Elantra GT. 2013 Mazda Skyactiv CX-5 Finalist For 2013 Green Car of the Year!

Green Car Journal has announced their 5 finalists for 2013 Green Car of the Year and showing up on the list is the 2013 Mazda Skyactiv CX-5. As a Mazda dealership in Orlando, Florida, Don Mealey’s Sport Mazda has seen the demand first hand for the fuel efficient environmentally improved Skyactiv CX-5. Normally, people do not associate “green” and “sport utility vehicle” together, but Green Car Journal has recognized the engineering feat that Mazda has achieved with their crossover SUV which is the only type of car in its class that is nominated.

The Skyacitv CX-5 is the most efficient SUV available in the US with an EPA rating of 35 miles per gallon and has a shot at the title when you look at past winners like the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid SUV which won the title in 2008 even with only a gas mileage of 22 mpg which clearly gives hope for a Mazda win this year. We’ll find out who wins the title when the winner is announced next month at the LA Auto Show. For more information about the Mazda CX-5 or Skyactiv vehicles, visit SportMazdaOrlando.com.

Mazda's i-ELOOP: Turning Stopping Power Into Real Power

When the all new Mazda 6 rolls into dealerships nationwide early next year, they are going to be equipped with Mazda’s latest safety and energy saving features. Highlighting one of these features, the new i-ELOOP regenerative braking system will harness energy lost from braking to help power electrical systems that car owners use every day such as air conditioning and the audio system. The i-ELOOP system improves fuel economy by 10 percent by applying energy that would otherwise be lost during braking to charge a capacitor that returns the energy as electricity to help power the electrical systems in the car. The chart below illustrates how the i-ELOOP system works while in motion and during a stop.

The second the foot comes off the pedal, the i-ELOOP system kicks into gear. One of the benefits of using a capacitor over a battery is that it can quickly be charged and discharged unlike a battery. In just a few seconds, the alternator can fully charge the capacitor and power the electrical components without needlessly wasting fuel. i-ACTIVSENSE: The Future of Mazda Safety Coming Soon

When the 2014 Mazda6 launches next year, safety will definitely be a major highlight of changes being introduced to the updated model. Among these features will be the i-ACTIVSENSE, Mazda’s newest perimeter safety monitoring and response system. Sensors installed on the 2014 Mazda6 will be able to help the driver in many events that can occur on the road that requires quick responses. One of these monitoring systems is Mazda Radar Cruise Control which judges traveling speed and distance to the vehicles ahead which causes it to work within a set speed range to maintain a safe following distance adding convenience and safety to cruise control.

The Mazda Radar Cruise Control is only a taste of the many features you will find with i-ACTIVSENSE. The chart above gives a demonstration of the monitoring systems at work. Not only does it provide driver support, but also hazard recognition and collision avoidance/ damage reduction support. Some hazards and conditions that these systems help monitor are lane drifting, oncoming traffic, and blind spots. Service Made Simple: Mazda's Full Circle Service Inspection Report Card

The quality and convenience of service at a Mazda dealership beats any regular run-of-the-mill auto shop. The Mazda Full Circle Service inspection performed by certified Mazda service technicians is a thorough check up on the condition of your Mazda. At the end of the inspection, you will receive the Mazda Full Circle Service report card (pictured below) which is an easy to read detailed report on the condition of key components and fluid levels on your Mazda.

Items marked “green” indicate items that are in working condition or was replaced and fixed during the service visit. “Yellow” indicates something that needs your attention but is in no critical need of replacement or repair before the next scheduled service interval. Those marked in “red” indicate items that need your attention meaning that wear and tear is visible and has a high chance of damage or failure before the next service interval.

Engineered For Safety: Skyactiv Gets The Grade

The 2013 Mazda Skyactiv CX-5 is the epitome of safety for the future of Mazda vehicles. Traditional unibody vehicles focus on displacing crash energy primarily through the floor pan. The 2013 Skyactiv CX-5 was designed using the Skyactiv-Body which, as blogged about earlier, is engineered to handle the energy from a collision. Energy gets distributed through the floor, door beams, and over the roof reducing the physical jolt in the passenger compartment giving it an edge in safety over other similarly classed competitors.

Mazda engineers started by taking the top federal and independent crash-test criteria and took a reverse engineering approach to achieve their desired results. Not only will the rigidity and structure of the body will keep you safe in the event of a dramatic collision, but it also increases the Skyactic CX-5’s handling, ride quality, and interior quietness. With these safety and performance features, it’s easy to see why the 2013 Mazda Skyactiv CX-5 is a must own!
