IIHS certifies three Mazda vehicles as Top Safety Pick Plus

The most fuel efficient automaker in North America is also one of the safest! The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has certified the 2014 Mazda3, 2014 Mazda6, and 2014 CX-5 as Top Safety Pick Plus vehicles which distinguishes the safest autos on the road from the rest of the pack.

The safety found in Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology platform has helped revolutionize a brand famous for rotary engines into one that radiates safety, style, and performance. The three vehicles are the first Mazdas to be completely designed and built around SKYACTIV technology platform that has brought new life to the Mazda brand since the days when Ford was the majority stock holder.

In 2013, the only Mazda designated with the Top Safety Pick Plus status was the 2014 Mazda6 while the 2013 CX-5 only managed to earn a Top Safety Pick. Improvements were made to the CX-5 to tackle the newly introduced overlap test which prevented the Plus certification the previous year.

This is also the first year the Mazda3 has earned the Top Safety Pick Plus award which is just another trophy on the shelf of the Car of the Year for auto news sites like AutoGuide.com.

2014 Mazda6 is Popular Mechanics’ 2013 Car of the Year

Fuel economy, responsive slick handling and an upscale appearance has been rewarded in the 2014 Mazda6 sedan with Popular Mechanics’ 2013 Car of the Year!

At Don Mealey’s Sport Mazda Orlando, auto shoppers have found the perfect car they are looking for in the Mazda6 due to the fact it is one of the best equipped vehicles in its class while remaining affordable.

Popular Mechanics took every test drive over 2013 and narrowed it down to the top 10 cars of each segment. To help select a winner, the editors took the most important qualities to Popular Mechanics’ readers to make a final decision. They found that the 2014 Mazda6 met the affordability, utility, fuel efficiency, performance, innovation and design that their readers would appreciate.

Features like the i-ELOOP regenerative braking system, SKYACTIV-G 2.5 liter gas engine, the SKYACTIV-MT manual and SKYACTIV-AT automatic transmission, and the striking beauty of the KODO “Soul of Motion” design language make the 2014 Mazda6 a clear choice for auto enthusiasts.

2014 Mazda6 diesel racer scores a first ever diesel victory at Indy!

After its debut being the first diesel to compete at Daytona and a first ever diesel victory in the Grand Am class at Road Atlanta, the 2014Mazda6 equipped with the Skyactiv-D engine scored another important milestone victory by becoming the first ever diesel racer to score a victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Anticipating a retail launch in the fourth quarter of 2013, Don Mealey’s Sport Mazda, a new Mazda dealership in Orlando, Florida, has begun to see the demand with a flood of inquiries every month wanting to know when exactly the diesel 6 will be available. Mazda has a real winner in the diesel powered Mazda6.

The 2014 Mazda6 Skyactiv-D was the first diesel powered race car to make the paces at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 60 years. According to Mazda, its race modified diesel Mazda6 has an engine that is 51 percent similar to the stock engine and an overall weight that is 63 percent of the stock weight which means the racing platform version of the 6 is closer to a stock version than most major car maker’s racers. With five victories under its hood, there is no doubt that Mazda has the diesel game figured out.

2014 Mazda6’s fuel efficiency gets a boost with i-Eloop!

Imagine a mid-sized sedan that gets better fuel efficiency than top selling subcompacts. At Don Mealey’s Sport Mazda, an Orlando new Mazda dealership, auto shoppers can get behind the wheel of the 2014 Mazda6 now equipped with Mazda’s i-Eloop technology! Part of the SKYACTIV technology engineering philosophy set by Mazda, the i-Eloop is a regenerative braking system that converts the raw energy created while braking to charge and store energy to power electronic components in the Mazda6. The benefit of this extra power is that fuel economy receives a slight boost pushing it to 28 mpg city and 40 mpg highway which beats top selling subcompacts!
The regenerative braking technology allows the i-Eloop to power electronic components without wasting fuel.

It’s important to note that this kind of mileage is extremely rare in a mid-sized sedan that is not a hybrid or diesel powered. The i-Eloop is available on the 2014 Mazda6 Grand Touring when equipped with the GT Technology package and has a starting price of $32,570. These past few weeks have been pretty exciting for Mazda especially coming off of the recent wave of interest after the unveiling of the 2014 Mazda3 last month. There is no official word yet that the i-Eloop will be available on the new Mazda3 or CX-5 in the near future, but it would be hard not to speculate since the new Mazda3 has taken a strong lead from the Mazda6.
